Preparation and Characterization of beta-FeOOH/RTV Nanocomposites with High-UV Shielding Efficiency

摘要beta-FeOOH nanorods were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis using NaH2PO4 as structural modifier. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern indicates that the as-prepared product is the pure tetragonal phase of beta-FeOOH. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations reveal the targeted product is rod-shaped with a long axis of 600 nm and short axis of 100 nm. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy show that the beta-FeOOH nanorods perform excellent absorption (98%) on the whole UV area (200 similar to 400 nm), reflective of a potentially desired anti-ultraviolet light property. beta-FeOOH/RTV nanocomposites were subsequently prepared from Polydimethylsiloxane and as-prepared beta-FeOOH nanorods via in situ polymerization. The nanocomposite containing a very low content (0.05% in weight) of beta-FeOOH nanorods possess the high-UV light shielding efficiency. The results show the UV absorbance of RTV nanocomposite is raised from about 62% to 98% in the UV region (240 similar to 400 nm), revealing promising technical applications in UV shielding.
