Mg doping improving the cycle stability of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 at high voltage

摘要A series of LiNi0.5-x Mg (x) Mn0.5O2 (0 <= x <= 0.1) samples are synthesized by a combination of coprecipitation (CP) and solid-state reaction. After electrochemical measurements, the discharge capacity and cycle stability of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 can be obviously improved by Mg doping and the best doping amount is 5%. Most importantly, the cycle stability of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 at high voltage can be greatly improved by Mg doping. Specifically, capacity retention of 5% Mg-doping sample improves 16% than that of pure LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 in the range of 3.0 similar to 4.6 V. We find Mg doping can lower the Li/Ni cation mixing, reduce migration resistance, and retard polarization, in turn, improve the electrochemical properties of LiNi0.5-x Mg (x) Mn0.5O2.
