Separation of boron by using ion exchange technique for the isotopic measurement of boron in salt lake brine

摘要A simple technique combining dynamic column with static bath ion exchange procedure was used to extract boron from salt lakes brine. All the cations in brine were first adsorbed by cation-exchange resin (H+ form) loaded into a column. Except boron, the anions in brine were adsorbed by the addition of anion-exchange resin (OH- form) to the elution containing anions and boron when the pH value of elution was controlled to be 4. The recovery of boron was > 98%. The solution was evaporated at 60 degrees C until the boron concentration of elution was about 1 g/L. The isotopic ratio of boron was determined by thermal ionization mass spectrometry based on the measurement of Cs2BO2+ ion with graphite loading. The results showed that there was no isotopic fractionation to be found after ion-exchange process.
